Over the past few months we have been working with Teign CVS to distribute funds to households in the communities where we work. These funds were to support households where an adult was looking after another adult; they did not need to be a registered carer or in receipt of carers allowance and the adult being supported could be in another household. This gave us great flexibility and allowed us to support 20 separate households with funds totally nearly £6000. We utilised our contacts with other organisations, our own knowledge of our wonderful towns and the fantastic individuals who support the work we do to make contact with households that we were able to help with things such as mattresses, food vouchers, water, gas and electric bills.
Here is just some of the beautiful feedback we had about the difference that it made:
“This money will help a lot thank you from the bottom of my heart, what a difference it has made.”
“Oh, my goodness, I just want to say again, thank you so much. What a sight to see on my account! I can’t quite put it into words what this means to me, the stress I have felt for such a long time has been awful. The worse it got the harder it felt to ever get out of. So, a big, enormous thank you.”
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the supermarket food vouchers for my family. I have 2 children with additional needs for which I receive no financial help for in terms of carers allowance. I was so grateful to be able to have help with the food costs which helped to take the pressure off so that we could put some money towards fixing the car so that my husband could go to work.”
To be able to help these households has meant the world to us, if you are ever in crisis or struggling with something and unsure where to turn please contact us and we will see how best we can support you. We do not always have access to grants like this but if you are known to us when they come up we can contact you, and we can always signpost you to other support agencies, put you in contact with Citizen’s advice, make referrals to the food bank and of course make you aware of all the free sessions that we have on offer.
