GOOD NEWS for south Devon towns as Be Buckfastleigh gets two-year funding thanks to National Lottery players.
Be Buckfastleigh is celebrating after being awarded two-years of funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK. Be Buckfastleigh will bring people together to tackle health, social and economic inequalities in Buckfastleigh and other small rural towns, and will form a cluster of towns to give voice to communities and support a wider local economy. The National Lottery funding will also help turn local work into a shareable model of how to bring rural communities and people together to build self-reliant and self-sustaining communities that prosper and thrive.
Be Buckfastleigh will use the National Lottery funding to develop our approach to:
- delivering activities and services which engage, develop community, get people active and identify needs.
- targeting more complex issues by creating pathways into participation, engagement, volunteering, skill development and work.
- delivering training, skills and personal development programmes to help people feel valued, involved, appreciated and respected.
- creating new “anchor” organisations, building on community strengths and identifying opportunities for economic growth and resilience.
- developing a network of communities to provide an effective scale for addressing common issues.
- building relationships with regional and national public and third sector bodies, and with research and policy makers, to develop a better understanding of issues affecting rural communities and identify opportunities for developing new approaches.
Be Buckfastleigh will also be building on its long running Hello Summer project by delivering the Government’s Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme over Christmas for families in Buckfastleigh, Bridgetown/Totnes and Bovey Tracey/Heathfield.
Be Buckfastleigh Director, Pam Barrett said: “Our Hello Summer project has been running successfully in Buckfastleigh of 6 years now, and we are delighted to be able to this offer support to more families in Heathfield, Bovey, Bridgetown and Totnes. Our Hello Xmas activities will start on Monday 20 December and run at different locations across these communities throughout the holidays.”
