Hello Summer

End of week 3…..

A mixed bag of weather unfortunately putting paid to our Inflatable session on Monday & the Skate Jam on Thursday.  Keep an eye open for the rescheduled date. Other top activities included the Pit Forging for the 12+ age group.  We are so pleased to be able to offer such exciting and differing activities

If you have joined in the activities, please do remember to give us your feedback, you will find a feedback board or sheets for you to complete for each activity.  It is so important that we can evidence to our funders just how well the activities have been received.  That way we get to hopefully get more funding for future events.

It you’ve not joined in with us yet, here is the information.  Come and join in!

The full programme is online and in brochure form around town!
Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/hellosummer to learn all the latest info.

Here’s a bit of background to our project.
Hello Summer is mostly funded by a government grant to provide enriching activities and healthy food to disadvantaged children.
Be Buckfastleigh received this funding for the 73 children in Buckfastleigh who are entitled to free school meals. We also have a grant from Buckfastleigh Town Council, paid for by the people of Buckfastleigh, and a Children in Need grant also for disadvantaged Buckfastleigh children.
Because of the way we run our activities, we are delighted to be able to open them up to all young people in Buckfastleigh, and to welcome visiting children from other places. However, our priority is ALWAYS the disadvantaged young people of Buckfastleigh.
Whilst we are very happy for families from outside Buckfastleigh to attend the free, non bookable workshops, ALL bookable events are reserved for Buckfastleigh children unless otherwise advised.
We are very sorry that some families feel it is unfair that they cannot attend the farm event, or other bookable events, but this was an extremely popular activity and tickets were booked up very quickly for Buckfastleigh children.
If a bookable event is undersubscribed we may open those tickets up to people outside of Buckfastleigh. Please like and follow our Facebook page for the latest information.
We have some excellent free activities everyday which do not need to be booked in advance and we hope that families from around Buckfastleigh enjoy joining us at those.

The full programme is online and in brochure form around town!

Cycling

Sunday 15 August

Sunday 15 August – Free, small group, social cycle ride through three charming Dartmoor Gateway Towns, incl. stops for refreshments and lunch.
We hope you will join us for the 8th BIG BIKE REVIVAL free event this summer – a cycle ride to experience three local towns each with their own distinct character, and the beautiful countryside of the lower moor, with the enjoyment of travelling by bike.
This is a cycle ride from South Brent to Ashburton via Buckfastleigh, return.
Please be sure to book a place, as the number of places are limited.
Bring your bike and meet up with other participants at the Old School Community Centre in South Brent to start the ride. The centre has a small car park, off Totnes Road, for approximately 20 vehicles. Two spaces are dedicated for people with disabilities. There are two cycle stands in the car park that can accommodate up to 4 bicycles.
The route will be mainly on-road and there are a few hills, making the ride suitable for cyclists who are confident beginners with some experience and of reasonable fitness.
The distance of the ride, if you start at and return to South Brent, is approximately 18 miles.
Recently surveyed by Sustrans (the walking and cycling charity, and the custodian of the National Cycle Network), the route has been proposed for development for a dedicated, accessible cycle route to link the three towns into the overall network of cycling routes locally, particularly providing a safe cycle path to/from South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton.
The ride will be led by an experienced cyclist and at an easy pace for the enjoyment of all riders.
There will be a stop in Buckfastleigh for refreshments, and a stop in Ashburton for lunch.

Places are limited. So reserve your place now!

Reserve your place today.

There will be more Big Bike Revival free cycle rides on these dates:

  • Saturday 21 August : Bike Bus transport & Cycle Ride on Dartmoor
  • Sunday 28 August :  e-Bike Led Ride
  • Monday 30 August :  Primrose Trail Ride (Avon Valley). This route has been recently proposed for development as an accessible multi-purpose trail for walkers and cyclists, and is between Kingsbridge and South Brent, following where possible the route of the old Primrose Line railway.

Swimming

The summer timetable is out now – Click the picture left for a larger copy.

We will be maintaining our covid protection measures but will increase the number of people allowed on site to 40. That still leaves plenty of room to maintain distance between swimmers and poolside.
Please note that we are NOT running a BOOKING SYSTEM – it is simply turn up and swim.
Changing rooms will remain out of use so please come swim ready. Our tuck shop is also staying closed for now and we ask customers to wear a mask in reception.
Watch this page for any timetable changes and the upcoming holiday timetable.
